What is nordic walking?

Nordic walking is a technique of walking that uses specially designed poles which enhance your natural walking experience. The technique is similar to the upper body action of classic cross country skiing.

Nordic walking is an excellent all over body exercise, using up to 45% more calories than normal walking. Nordic walking also utilises up to 90% of the bodies’ skeletal muscles and is great for improving your posture, and for keeping those joints well oiled and preventing the rust set in.

The nordic walking poles help to propel the walker along by actively utilising the upper body. The end result is that the walker works harder than usual but the support given by the poles makes the actual walk feel easier!

Nordic walking brings, a finer feel for the movements of your body. With this awareness comes a spring in your step, a lightness of foot and you are away, it’s almost like a dance!

It can be done by anybody, anywhere and does not require expensive equipment or clothing. It is the fastest growing fitness activity in the world with more than 10 million people worldwide enjoying this activity all year round.

The great thing about Nordic walking, is that it is for all ages and abilities, from children right up to the elderly. In fact the use of the poles can assist those who need some extra support and stability as they walk. Suddenly with a pole in each hand we almost become quadrupeds ( four footed ) and that brings it’s advantages.

Nordic Walking is quite unique in that it provides benefits for everybody from those with medical problems to the super fit. It is suitable and effective for all ages and fitness levels.
